The Body remembers....
Shiatsu is hands on style of bodywork originating from Japan. The practitioner works with points and energy channels (meridians) throughout the body, the same as used in acupuncture. No needles are used though in this supportive therapy that seems to almost hold you as your body aligns and settles into places that encourage wellbeing and healthy flow.
It is received fully clothed on a comfortable futon mat, though if this is difficult for you due to mobility restrictions a treatment table can be arranged.
How Does it work?
Your body is encouraged and reminded to relax and let go by the skilled hands of the practitioner, who uses varying touches of pressure depending on what you need and like. A gentle nurturing touch may be used to support areas that feel depleted or sore, whilst a deeper “lets engage and get moving” touch may be used to encourage your energy (chi) to wake up and release areas that have become stuck or stiff. Nothing is every forced and no manipulation is used, it is purely about helping and encouraging your body to be in alignment and your energy to be in the best flow possible.
Your body and your energy work together as a intelligent system, that knows what its doing and how to heal itself with the right support. When we feel out of balance or overstretched and areas become weak or sore, or an injury occurs, the flow of energy in us gets effected and it can be as though we are not fully connected up in some way.
Shiatsu is about reestablishing the flow and connection back in us and supporting us with whatever we are going through. Body Mind and Soul.
Though the practitioner is supporting and guiding you, it is is not the practitioner who heals or fixes anything alone, it is your own self and willingness to engage in the process of healing happening that creates the change. It can be received for physical or emotional support and to promote wellbeing and relaxation.
" The body remembers, the bones remember, the joints remember, even the little finger remembers. Memory is lodged in pictures and feelings in cells themselves like a sponge filled with water. Anywhere flesh is present, wrung, even touched lightly, a memory may flow out like a stream.
